You have to wake up and get a clue. This movie selectively ignores the vast body of scientists and educators who are trying to teach science and don’t give a damn whether you’re Christian or atheist.

How else do you explain Ken Miller – a devout Catholic, and a very prominent biologist. Or Francis Collins.

The strange, but sad, truth is that evolution is not able to answer all of life’s origin questions.

Hellooo, anyone home? Evolution – or more precisely natural selection – involves the origin of species, not the origin of life. That would be abiogenesis.

More strange, but sad, is the truth that creationists claim that “Darwinism” can’t answer their questions, and then demonstrate that they don’t understand the difference between natural selection and a hole in the ground.

I hope that Dan decided to read more of your blog…maybe he will see that there are things in life you can’t learn from a science book

LOL I’m well aware that there are other subjects that one can (and should) study besides science. Please tell me that you understand the difference between science and religion though, because Ben Stein apparently can’t.

I understand there is a difference between “origin of life” and “origin of species.” And I should know better than to throw the word “evolution” around like that.

In this case, I was referring to “evolution” as in the origin of LIFE. Meaning…how EARTH came into existence. If you’re looking for the answer in “Darwinism” you will never find it.

Sorry, I should’ve added this bit: For meaning and purpose in our lives, I’m consistently bothered by the argument that a lot of Christians make. That is, they argue that without their God or their religion, life holds no meaning. Hogwash – I don’t believe in any gods, and I have plenty of meaning and purpose in my life. I’m reminded every single time I look at my wife (we don’t have children, but are thinking of starting a family in a year or two), my parents, my close friends, etc., of just how much meaning my life has. That doesn’t go away just because I think that “God” is another word for “imaginary/idealized superfriend.”

Thanks for responding back to me. In no way do I believe that meaning in life only comes from being a Christian, many people can find some type of meaning and purpose in their life outside of God. The reality for my life is that I have realized that God formed me and created me for a purpose greater than me as a person. He created me for a relationship with Him and to bring Him glory. I know this sounds “churchy” to you and I respect your opinion on issues of life and such.
The reality is we can believe whatever we want here on earth, but ultimately we are meant for so much more than just a simple life on earth and raising a family. I want to have a family as well as I’m getting married soon, but I know that beyond my own life and work and family, God has created me for a sincere purpose and the more time I spend in nature, with people and learning more about science, the creation screams that their is a Creator.
As I continue my master’s degree I am finding more and more that I need to be a life-long learner. I encourage you to be open to asking God to reveal Himself to you. I understand you are an atheist, but I have another question…

I might not be as “open-minded” as you think I should be but I have done plenty of research on religion and evolution.
Both Creation and Evolutionism start with philosophical assumptions. Evolutionists (traditionally) start with the assumption that God has no intervention in this world. This isn’t a testable conclusion; they didn’t come to this conclusion by science. Creationists have the philosophical position that God has partaken in the history of this earth, and that He has revealed the True history of the earth through His infallible Word.

When man inspects the earth, the biosphere, the world around us, we formulate hypothesis as to how things came to be as they are today. After data is brought in and analyzed, we can test our hypothesis and see what outcomes we’re given. Evolutionists wish to construct their own truth; the earth formed slowly over billions of years. Both of these are subject to the same scientific method. When we observe the outpourings of data rendered from the science, we can see that the evidence greatly supports the idea that God created the earth.

If you understood Christianity, you would understand this:

Once a person has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior of this world, they understand that there is no need or reason to continue to be open-minded to other religions or other gods. They have found the Truth, the Life, and the Way. They have found what everyone, including science, is searching for.

Evolution is clearly a theory that has not been proved at all.

I’m always a little confused when I hear someone who is an atheist say that Christians are close minded (or in this case tunnel-vision was used). Isn’t an atheist closed off to the idea that there is a God? Maybe I’m closed off to the idea that there isn’t a God, but at the very least, isn’t it the pot calling the kettle black, for an atheist to call a Christian close-minded?

Maybe we are tunnel-visioned as far as believing there is one way to Heaven, but that Way is open to everyone. God is here for all who come to Him. We come as we are. I feel like that gets left out a lot. A minority of Christians give the rest of us a bad reputation because they like to point out the sins of others and condemn them to hell, which is nowhere near what we are supposed to do. Salvation is a free gift and is open to all, no discrimination based on who you are or what your past consists of. I guess it could be considered close-minded, or tunnel visioned, or whatever else, but what’s wrong with sticking to our convictions and beliefs? Why would anyone respect a Christian who wavered in their beliefs to make others happy or comfortable? We’re not politicians, it doesn’t work that way.
