Monday Minute

It is over halfway through July!

  • Praying that God provides for Cassidy to go back to college to finish her degree. She is planning to finish with a Contemporary Worship Degree at BCF (Baptist College of Florida). We are excited that she will finish quickly.
  • Even though seminary is wearing me out, I’m planning to be finished this Fall (unless I decide to keep going…hmmm).
  • I’ve been challenged to do a better job of strategic planning. Praying that I’ll be in sync with His plans before I make plans.
  • Looking forward to Wednesday night, we have a special praise dance team coming and a great night of worship!
  • I’m thinking about beginning a podcast of the Wednesday night service.
  • Big changes in store for our church this Fall! I’m excited.
  • We saw the movie, “Inception.” It was an interesting (and crazy) movie. I still do not understand a majority of the movie.
  • A few blog posts I plan to write in the next week or two are, “Reflections on 5 years of Student Ministry” and “Thoughts on Planning in Ministry” and “Family Focused Student Ministry.”

Update on Life

Summer is upon us! I’m planning on getting back to a routine of posting more thoughts on life and ministry. For all of my 2 or maybe 3 readers, I will more coming!

  • Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time planning and praying about message series, events, small group growth, leader recruitment and more!
  • Personally, I’ve been feeling a lot better since my two procedures a few weeks ago. God has blessed me with family and friends that REALLY pray! My blood count and iron level is coming up. Praise the Lord!
  • I’m heading to wedding #3 of the summer this weekend. I’m heading to one of my best friends, Chris Miller’s wedding in Sacramento, CA. I’m super excited for him! He has been a faithful friend to me and I appreciate him. I’ve never been to California, so I look forward to checking out the “left coast.”
  • I’m heading to Puerto Rico on June 5th with 30 students/parents to go and build homes and share Christ with World Changers! Pray for the group and that God uses us in a mighty way to share the love and gospel of Christ.
  • Thankful for an awesome wife! She wrote a new worship song yesterday that was great! Praying that God will use her in a mighty way and provide opportunities to sing and write for His glory.
  • Staying fixed upon loving Jesus and others is my desire over the summer. I pray that many relationships are strengthened this summer!

Monday Minute

Life has been busy lately with moving into our home and ministry! Here are a few quick updates to life:

  • Moved into our new home and have really enjoyed having our own place. Cassidy is doing a great job of decorating!
  • Leaving at 4:45am in the morning to take a group of students and parents deep sea fishing in Destin, Florida! The goal is to build relationships and catch some great fish!
  • Cassidy is enjoying being a substitute teacher!
  • Cassidy’s new CD “New Day” is coming out in April! We are really excited about it and the potential it has to bring glory to Christ! If you want to pre-order one, click HERE.
  • It has been awesome to see students come to know Christ in the past few months. Praying for God to continue to move in hearts and see more salvation and growth in their lives!
  • I’m blessed to have many people in my life that encourage me often.
  • Thankful for a loving church family and staff to work with each week.
  • I’m trying to get back on a workout routine and am planning on drinking protein shakes each day to gain back some weight (and muscle) hopefully.
  • March Madness has been crazy! My brackets are not doing so well, but I’m enjoying watching some great basketball.
  • I’m beginning a new series called “Shift” – Focusing on the cross and the days leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. Praying that students shift their focus to the real meaning of the cross and resurrection!
  • I’m beginning my next two seminary classes this week. I’m learning a lot and am being challenged to manage time wisely.
  • Thankful for God’s grace – I’m praying that I would decrease and that He would increase in my life and relationships.

Snow Day!

Wow, it has snowed in SE Alabama! We have been enjoying the snow all day! My wife, Cassidy has never seen snow, so we had a blast experiencing it together. Seeing that we are both from Florida, snow is a big deal!

Below are some snapshots of the day!

LoveSick

Valentine’s is coming up this Sunday! V-day is a nice celebration of romance and love. Two years ago on valentine’s I proposed to my wife on the beach!

I’ve been leading a series this month for the student ministry called, “LoveSick.” I’m praying that students accept God’s plan for sex and relationships as the goal for their lives. I’m posting some thoughts and points that we have been covering this month during our weekly service called, “Momentum.”

Week 1 -  “Superman vs. Kryptonite” – Judges 13-14 (Samson’s Obsession with LUST)

Main Thought: When we become obsessed with the lust of relationships, we lose sight of God’s plan

  1. Samson was STRONG on the OUTSIDE

He was a “beast” as we like to say.

  • He killed a lion with his bare hands.
  • He single-handedly killed thirty Philistines.
  • He killed one thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey.

2. Samson was WEAK on the INSIDE

  • Delilah’s name is literally “weakness”
  • He disobeyed his parents – It is vital to honor parents when it comes to relationships.

Culture today says that our worth is tied to how many relationships we have – especially of the opposite sex. God has given us our own unique identity – many times we look at other people to define ourselves. As a teenager, Samson began to move away from God’s specific calling to rescue the Israelites from the Philistines because of giving into LUST.

I will post tomorrow on the second week of the “LoveSick” series!
